Video Surveillance and Point of Sale (POS) Integration
For GoMart Inc.
Client
Founded in 1971 and headquartered in Gassaway, West Virginia, GoMart Inc. is a family-owned convenience store chain that evolved from a 1910s riverboat petroleum delivery business. The company operates more than 120 locations across West Virginia, Ohio, and Virginia, making it one of the largest private employers in its home state. Historically known for introducing West Virginia’s first self-service gas pumps, GoMart blends modern quick-service food options with localized retail strategies. Today, their stores are distinct for offering proprietary food service alongside unique regional items like locally made artisan goods and West Virginia University apparel.
Challenge
As retail technology evolves, legacy hardware eventually reaches a critical tipping point. Go Mart faced this exact challenge when its existing digital video recorder (DVR) infrastructure reached official end-of-life (EOL) status.
The consequences of operating an EOL surveillance platform were significant:
- Maintenance Bottlenecks: Replacement parts were no longer manufactured, making repairs increasingly difficult and expensive.
- Operational Risks: Extended system downtime at any location directly threatened loss prevention efforts and compromised overall store security.
- Technological Stagnation: The aging system could not support modern IP video capabilities or advanced data analytics.
GoMart needed to completely modernize its video recording and management platform across 126 distinct stores. However, a total rip-and-replace of all cameras and cabling across three states was financially prohibitive and operationally disruptive.
The company required a sophisticated, hybrid solution that could bridge the gap between legacy hardware and modern IP technology. Furthermore, the new system had to feature minimal physical footprints due to limited back-office equipment space, all while maintaining their critical Point of Sale (POS) video integration.
Important Considerations:
To ensure the new investment delivered maximum long-term value, ISS-KY and Go Mart identified several critical project parameters:
To de-risk the decision-making process, ISS-KY initiated an intensive Proof of Concept (POC) testing phase. ISS-KY rigorously evaluated three competing surveillance platforms in real-world environments. This allowed Go Mart leadership to directly compare functionality, performance, scalability, and ease of use before committing to a final technology roadmap.
Solution
Following the comprehensive POC testing, Go Mart selected i3 International as their new standardized surveillance platform, based on the expert recommendation of ISS-KY.
ISS-KY installed a hybrid video solution utilizing i3 International’s advanced recording platforms. This smart architecture allowed Go Mart to keep its functional legacy analog cameras actively running while immediately upgrading the underlying processing power, software, and storage.
To solve the spatial challenges in the stores, ISS-KY designed centralized infrastructure layouts utilizing professionally installed, secure wall racks. This kept the high-performance NVRs off floors and desks, protecting the hardware from environmental hazards and unauthorized tampering.
The i3 International platform seamlessly ingested Go Mart’s POS transaction data streams. This enabled advanced text-overlay and transactional searching, giving corporate security teams the ability to search for specific receipts, line items, or register anomalies and instantly view the corresponding video footage.
Result
Deploying a major technology upgrade across 126 operational, 24-hour retail locations spanning three states requires meticulous logistics and project management. ISS-KY structured a strategic, three-year phased rollout to minimize disruption to Go Mart’s daily business operations.
Working in close coordination with Go Mart’s internal IT and operations personnel, ISS-KY scheduled installations during low-traffic windows. Technicians efficiently decommissioned the EOL hardware, mounted the secure wall racks, integrated the existing camera lines, and established the network connections for remote management.
Over the three-year deployment cycle, this collaborative approach ensured that store managers experienced zero operational downtime, and security coverage remained continuous.
The multi-year modernization project achieved all of Go Mart’s strategic and operational goals, delivering a highly reliable, standardized enterprise surveillance network.
The scalability of the i3 International platform has already changed how Go Mart approaches new construction. With the core management platform established, Go Mart has successfully begun deploying fully IP-based, high-resolution surveillance systems at all newly constructed store locations. They can manage these new IP systems and their existing hybrid stores through the exact same centralized software platform.
