Anti-Loitering Alarm Deterrent
For Dollar General
Client
Dollar General, headquartered outside of Nashville, Tennessee, is a Fortune 200 account that operates discount variety stores across the United States. They currently have over 21,000 stores and are looking to grow that number significantly over the next three years.
Challenge
With every new store opening there were a multitude of low voltage vendors that were tasked with getting their systems up and running within a condensed construction schedule. Multiple low voltage contractors were on the same job site at one time. This led to confusion over certain aspects of the project like who should be responsible for items like conduit runs, wire management, etc. It also meant that critical communication regarding making the systems work together as intended frequently got overlooked or forgotten altogether.
Important Considerations:
Solution
ISS KY has been involved with Dollar General for many years and has used this technology at another retail customer’s location with great success. Hearing that they were facing the same issues at some of their store locations, ISS KY recommended a pilot with the solution. It was an immediate success, and has been gradually deployed in environments that justify this additional support
Result
The project management and design teams at ISS-KY were able to work with Dollar General to understand the specific requirements to reduce loitering at the store location. This reduced the concern of customers and store staff regarding loitering and homeless encampments outside or near the store property.
There has been a reduction in the number of people gathering outside our stores. There have been no complaints on the device being used, and it has significantly reduced the illegal behavior the store has had to contend with over the years.
Since 2009, ISS has installed over 20,000 low-voltage systems for Dollar General and continues to work closely with Dollar General regarding their specific store needs to ensure store personnel and customers feel safe and secure.
